City Opening Night - Filmmaker Q&A - FIESTA!

The Opening night film is the Australian premiere of the multi-award winning Chilean road movie Desierto Sur with a story that spans from Spain to Southern Chile. The producer Mauricio Arriagada will be in attendance to introduce the film and engage with the audience for a Q&A after the screening.

Those who arrive early to the cinema will be treated to a performance by Australian Tango champions Hosanna Heinrich & Federico Matiuzz who will be dancing to live music by the charismatic gypsy-tango-swing band My Sauce Good featuring featuring founding member of “Waiting for Guinness” Dirk Kruithof on guitar, violinist Veren Grigorgov (Arabesk) and Argentinean vocalist Laura Brozky.

This year the Festival has partnered with Vivaz Restaurant and Nightclub in the Rocks to host the biggest Opening Night Fiesta in the history of the Festival! Headlining the entertainment at the Vivaz Opening Night Fiesta will be one of Sydney’s most sought-after Latin bands, Son Veneno who have been described by Cubanismo Radio as “young, energetic, entertaining and tight, Son Veneno successfully fuse salsa cubana, funk, jazz, rap, reggae and pop styles in a way not heard here before. Son Veneno's original compositions will push the boundaries of Latin music in Australia"

Son Veneno has performed with many international recording artists including Ozomatli, Cubanismo, and Los De Abajo, Metallica.
