Following on from our very successful fundraising event at Casula Powerhouse, the Festival held a second ‘Shorts and Sounds’ fundraising night – this time at Eastside Arts in Paddington.
The evening was opened by one of the Festivals’ favorite musicians, Argentinean born Victor Monasterio. Always enthralling, his strong voice and guitar accompaniment wove together song, storytelling and a little Andean magic.
Three quirky short films followed, selected by the Sydney Latin American Festival as a Festival ‘taster’, in a lead up to what is looking to be our best year of movies yet!
The gorgeous and very striking couple, Hosanna Heinrich and Federico Matiuzzi, from ‘Eso es Tango’, then dazzled us with an awe-inspiring tango performance. If you missed it, then get yourself to the Festival Opening night early on Wednesday 2nd September to see this couple take a spin on the Dendy forecourt.
And to kick our evening off into some high-spirited Latin dancing we had Nova Sol, a musical ensemble from the Hispanic Artistic Expression Group. The chairs were pushed back and the dance-floor filled. A crazy fun-filled evening, fuelled by rhythms inspired from Spain, Brazil and Colombia. Bring on the Opening Night fiesta!
The Festival would like to thank all the volunteers and musicians who have generously donated their time to turn this event into such a successful and fun night. A special thank you to DJ Diego for his assistance in such a seamless and wonderful evening of shorts and sounds.
