An inspiring Iranian documentary that gives a whole new spin on Che’s legacy.
Alireza Rofougaran, 2009, 2010, Documentary, Iran, 78min, Farsi/Spanish/English with English subtitles
“I once read somewhere that it is some people’s fate; whenever their life seems to find some sort of order, a violent storm breaks and wrecks everything.” Inspired by a biography of Che Guevara, which he reads and then translates into Farsi, Iranian businessman Alireza Rofougaran switches the course of his life, and embarks on a four-year odyssey through Latin America and Europe, home movie camera in hand. His mission: to retrace Che’s footsteps.
In an effort to gain a greater personal understanding of Che, he looks up the late revolutionary’s surviving friends and foes. In the process, Alireza gains new insights into his own life, and his society in Iran. Chasing Che premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival in Barcelona and was runner up for the Grand Jury Award at Seattle’s True Independent Film Festival.
