2011 Sydney Latin American Film Festival

Human Rights focus on Colombia

Latin America has long been struggling with human rights abuses arising from dictatorships, repression, civil wars and crime. In recent years it has been reported that despite democratisation, the region’s respect for fundamental human rights is illusory. This event, held in collaboration with Macquarie University, will present a confronting new film release from Colombia together with a number of compelling short films. Following the film will be a topical discussion and live music by Waldo Garrido and Navegaos . Argentinean wine, Mexican beer, food tastings and more.

Navegaos is a Sydney-based band, they perform Latin American contemporary folk music. Modern instruments are blended with pre-Columbian sounds and Central American rhythms in a culturally rich and intense performance.
